The music industry hates you

According to Sasha Frere-Jones of The New Yorker:

In a move that will affect blogs everywhere [. . .] YouTube is now muting    videos that make unauthorized use of copyrighted material. Once again, as the general public tries to share music and construct miniature radio stations of their own, various branches of the entertainment industry conspire to stop them.

With Radiohead’s success with releasing In Rainbows primarily through the internet, one would think that those most concerned with making money off of musicians would actively work to embrace this user-generated generation of web users, but it looks as if music execs. are content to exist in their own technophobic universes until they’re soundly out of business. Good luck with that.
