The Troops Are Restless

January 22, 2009

Apparently some of the troops are upset that the Obama administration plans to repeal the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy of the military.

Some of the soldiers quoted believe that allowing openly homosexual people to serve in the military condones actions that some believe is not okay.

This is only my opinion, but the current policy toward homosexual people in the military is blatant discrimination and there’s no place for it in our society. One does not have to believe what their coworkers are doing is right but, provided that no existing laws are broken, one must be able to work and serve civilly side by side. I tend to side with the last soldier quoted in the article:

“Put it this way: if they’re willing to fight for their country, to me, it doesn’t make a difference. Everybody has a right to defend their country, even if they are gay.”

I have a number of issues with this; I thought I saw a recent poll state that some military people would be okay with a change in policy; it is hard to believe this is a policy created by dems. It is the 21st century. the government should not discriminate; I am not sure how it justifies this action, but expects its citizens not to discriminate.
