Today in Literature

February 4, 2009

4 February 2009: Neal Cassady died, four days short of his forty-second birthday. Cassady was characterized as Dean Moriarty in On The Road by Jack Kerouac and was also a primary character in Tom Wolfe’s 1968 novel The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. A driving force behind the beat-movement of the fifties and sixties, Cassady’s name is often mentioned in the same context as Kerouac, Ken Kesey, and Allen Ginsberg.
