Today in Literature

February 10, 2009

10 February 1992: On this day in history, Alex Haley passed away.  Author of the famous Roots: The Saga of an American Family and co-author of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Haley will forever be remembered as an important contributor to the post-MLK Civil Rights movement.

Though marred by accusations plagiarism and exaggeration, Roots is a frequently taught novel and mini-series about the travails of both African slaves and their descendants.

Bonus Today in History:

10 February 2007: I proposed to the beautiful woman who is now my wife–she said yes.
