Happy Birthday Gabo!

March 6, 2009

6 March 1927 (or 1928, depending on the source): Gabriel García Márquez (known as ‘Gabo’ in his native Colombia) was born. The Nobel Prize winning Colombian author is often anthologized and stands as a shining example of well crafted magic realism.  García Márquez is best known for his novels–such as One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera, and Chronicle of a Death Foretold–but he is also a very gifted short story writer: see “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings.”

Happy birthday Gabo, and many happy returns.
