Infinite Jest and Hamlet

June 18, 2009

At the suggestion of some seasoned IJ readers, I plan to hurry through a reading of Hamlet before I commence the Infinite Summer.  Wallace’s title is taken from the tragedy and, really, it’s a shame that I haven’t read it before.  I have, though, watched the first few hours of the 1996 movie version featuring Kenneth Branagh and the ending of Mel Gibson’s Hamlet–I’ll let you guess which I preferred. But viewing portions of a few movies cannot excuse this oversight in my reading.

If you’ve not yet gotten your copy of IJ, there’s still a few days before the bonanza begins.
